ACCC Sues AirBnB
I commented on this article.
“The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has begun legal proceedings against San Francisco-based accommodation giant Airbnb, claiming it misled consumers over the price of accommodation.
The watchdog says that between 2018 and 2021 Airbnb advertised rates with dollar signs but failed to declare they were in US currency. Thus Australian travellers paid higher-than-expected fees once the bookings were processed and converted to Australian dollars, reports The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Reuters.
The ACCC, which is calling for customers to come forward, alleges many were further out of pocket through currency conversion fees charged by credit card providers.
On Wednesday Airbnb had yet to respond to the legal action.

My comment: Go for it, ACCC. I not only paid more than I thought, I didn’t even get a copy of some of the great, secretly-filmed footage of my amazing weekend in North Melbourne.
